Nothing rings in the new year like a belly full of oliebollen. They were sooo sooo good.

long time no see (not really)

It's been too long since I've posted pics of my pups. They're getting humongous (7 whole pounds).

where's daddy

The winter break is close to over, but we're squeezing every last bit of fun out of it. Thanks to my fantastic neighbor, who watched my boys for 3 entire hours this afternoon, my house is spotless and we are ready to host a party tomorrow for some 50 people. (ACK!--but in a good way).

I've gotta tell ya', the best party we've ever hosted was one last week when we invited the neighbor boys over to dance to Christmas music on our front porch. All I had to do was sweep the porch and get out the hot cocoa. My hubby manned the DJ station. It was cold and windy, but SOOO MUCH FUN!

Snow pants...nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh, warm and snuggly snow pants... nuh nuh nuh nuh nuh

I have lots of resolutions for the new year. Most of them involve having more fun and laughing more and giving the "say what" arms to housework. Happy 2011!

Teacher Presents

pencil pouches

One quick picture as the sun fades away (at the most ridiculous time of 4:30 pm). I made pencil pouches for the teachers. Hope they like 'em.

I've listed a snap tote in the shop made from gorgeous chocolate leather.

The sunshine this morning has been much wished-for. We have big plans for this Saturday...a visit to the tree farm, warming up at Starbucks, a little Sufjan and decorating. Aaaah, December.

A Break

Some things are just too close to the heart to blog about. I need to take a break from this space for a while and just be with my family and not think about the shop or sewing or picture taking. Life can change in an instant. Mine has. I'll be back when I feel up to it. Hugs to the true. You know who you are.

****Edited 11/15/2010

Thank you to friends who have emailed/called to check up on us. I've tried to respond to everyone, and hopefully you've heard from me by now. Bottom line: we are doing better now. We thank God everyday for his protection and provision.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be cryptic here... I just don't feel it's appropriate to spill my guts in public. :p

The End of the Marathon

My husband ran his first marathon this weekend. Of course I took lots and lots of pictures, but this one is by far my favorite. The kids spotted him heading toward the finish and ran across the field to him. I thought they were going to give him high fives and cheer him on, but they ran with him all the way to the end.the end of the marathon

Apple Squeeze 2010

Fall just wouldn't be complete without a visit to the historic Johnson Farm on Anderson Island for the annual apple squeeze. Rain or shine, we go every year. This year it was....RAIN!!!

Afterwards, we took a jaunt to the land to check out how our grass seed was coming along from our work day 2 weeks ago.

Woo hoo! (Stop with the dirty thoughts--that's I LOVE YOU in sign language, as in, "I love you grass seed, thank you for sprouting!")

My dog fell asleep with her harness on last week. I put her in her crate, and when she woke up, instead of letting me know she was awake, she entertained herself by gnawing through her harness. Argh. Dog stuff is not cheap, and when you have to buy two of everything, it's hard not to feel a little bit ripped off sometimes. Anyway, in the lifespan of a dog, I have no idea how many harnesses we're expected to go through, but I think it makes sense to try to figure out how to make these things, since I'm not totally useless when it comes to a needle and thread.

My first (and only) try so far:

harness on

harness on 2

It helps to have little doggies that I can control on a leash with literally ONE finger. I don't recommend braiding fabric and expecting that to contain a dog much bigger than this.

verdict: Not sure if this is really my style, but it fits her and she hasn't complained yet, AND it was dirt cheap--so YAY!!!!
