Stain Porch--check

We've never owned a house before that had any kind of porch/deck that needed to be maintained. This was my first time to do anything like this. Here's the before--ground in dirt, sun damaged, old stain unattractiveness:
I must say, I'm a bit addicted to the power washer. This baby can really clean!!! Now everytime I see something that's the least bit dirty, all I want to do is get out the power washer.
Here's the closeup. See the difference? Then I stained it with Floods--lots of good reviews out there for this product. Now for the closeup taken from the same spot as the first picture:
And finally, the money shot:
I know there are people who do this all the time and think nothing of it, but I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. Happy porchie to me!

Decidedly not cool

One more teacher present... a hobo tote. I have one I made that I use all the time--maybe even too much. Here comes Joanna wearing that same bag again. Too bad. One thing I love about growing older is that I seem to care less about what people think. I'm less interested in being cool; more interested in being me. Less interested in appearing aloof; more interested in being nice. Less fake; more authentic. I could go on and on. My 20th high school reunion (the one I'm helping to plan) is coming up in ten days. Back when we thought maybe only 10 people would show up, I offered my house as a place to meet for dinner. Um, yeah--turns out there are going to be about 45 people at my house for dinner. Part of me wants to freak. The other part says, who cares? My new mantra: It doesn't matter what the house looks like--the important thing is that we're all together. Right? (Of course, that's not going to make me stop cleaning like a madwoman.)

'tis the season

for last minute do-it-yourself teacher gifts. For my preschool son's teachers, lunch sacks:

For my oldest's kindergarten teacher--the one who whips out her guitar to sing rousing praise songs with the kids first thing in the morning (I wish I had half her energy): A guitar strap. I hope she likes it!

Three down and just one more to go. I sometimes feel like I'm spinning in circles here trying to keep up with everything. I had a friend call me the other day who asked me why whenever I answer the phone I always seem like I'm out of breath. Um, maybe 'cuz I always am!
