I've had a few bench ideas running through my head, but couldn't decide which one to go with. I finally decided that primitive was the style for me. Not because I decorate in that style, but more because I figured with my basic woodworking skills, I'd be more likely to pull it off. Much in the same way that a beginning quilter should probably start with the primitive/folk art style of quilting (because no one expects it to be perfect), a beginning woodworker should probably choose a style where function over perfection is valued.
This paint was meant to be my base coat, but when I sanded it and it started looking more and more like aged barn wood, I decided to stop while I was ahead.
