Quilting w/the Ladies

A friend is teaching me how to quilt by hand, and by that I mean piecing. Wow. I'm really too impatient for this. I'd much rather rush back to my sewing machine and do things the way I'm used to, but I'm getting a lesson in paper piecing--a good thing. And I'm enjoying the weekly company of some friendly women. The hostess served us an amazing lunch of homemade kimchi soup. Oh my word, soooo soooooooo yummy.

Is that a running stitch you are using on the seams? I've never done piecing, and precious little hand sewing, so I don't really know how it's done. Are all the seams just done with a running stitch then?

yes, the teeny tiny (and in my case, uneven) running stitch.

Hand piecing is my true love, my first few quilts (queen sized) were all done that way. It's soothing and relaxing to me, whereas with the sewing machine I always feel a bit stressed and like I'm under the gun or something (though less so as I get more and more practice). Not as fun, more "work" to me. Your stitches are beautiful, can't wait to see what you're making.

Quilting -- in true "Karate-Kid" style! I suspect you'll learn something about quilting, and yourself. Enjoy!

I hand pieced 3/4 of my sons quilt (I didn't have a machine then!!) then I machine pieced the last bit.....have to say, the hand sewn part was much more even and sturdy :D

I couldn't bear to hand piece, but I do love hand quilting!
