Thanks for all the positive feedback about the Handmade Crafts for Boys flickr group! I've got lots of ideas now for future projects for my boys, which I'm really excited about, because I *was* having a veeeery dry spell. If you haven't gone already, I highly recommend it. I love all the boyish inspiration that's out there.
Recognize that vehicle above? That's George Shrinks' zooper copter. George Shrinks is Davey's favorite cartoon, and for some reason, unlike other cartoons on TV, they just don't carry George Shrinks stuff in stores. Calliou, Jay Jay, Thomas, Blue...all those guys get pretty good representation in the toy section. For the longest time Davey wanted a zooper copter, so finally his daddy made him one. And then he made him a zooper car for good measure:
If you're interested, here's how he did it. He made the shape out of tape and a cereal box. Then he sprayed in insulation foam so that it would keep it's shape. Then he let that dry, carved away the excess, covered it with paper mache, let it dry for 2 days, and painted it with acrylic craft paint. The logo (printed off from the George Shrinks web site) was decoupaged and the entire thing was covered with a coat of shellac--good thing, since Keith tried to float it in the sink!!!
Awwwww! What a good dad!!!!
