There's a teenager from church, a wonderful girl, who comes over for four hours once a week to play with the boys so I can get some work done around the house. What an absolute sanity-saver for me she's been this summer. I can clean the bathrooms in peace without feeling guilty about neglecting the kids. When I'm upstairs getting work done, I hear them downstairs talking to her and laughing and having a great time. Today I heard Keith say, "Brianna, I really love you." It was so sweet. And then she said, "Awwww. Keith, you know I love you too!" I feel so fortunate to have found someone who is so eager and willing to play with my kids.
Last night when I called her mom to set up a time for this week, I offered her 2 possible times--Monday or Tuesday. She wanted to come both times! She said I would only have to pay her for one day and that she would volunteer the next. Either she is really, really bored at home or she actually enjoys having endless conversations about cars, trucks, and other random boy chatter. So, yay for me, she's coming again tomorrow. And just so you know, I'm going to pay her anyway, even though she thinks she's volunteering, because this girl is worth her weight in gold.
Take a look at this purse she brought with her. Her grandmother bought it for her in Brazil. Pretty cool, huh? I know I saw this on someone's blog a long time ago, but can't remember where. This is made entirely of a zipper--about 15 ft. long. The zipper was taken apart and then zig zag stitched back together so that the teeth are facing out. I took a bunch of pictures of it, and will put it on my ever-growing list of things to make.
This is what it looks like unzipped.
And Marieke from Mijk Improves, sent Mikey this sweet shirt all the way from the Netherlands. She appliqued the sailboat. When I saw it on her blog I was just taken with how cute the sailboat was, and told her so, not knowing that it was intended for Mikey. If you haven't seen enough pictures of Mikey yet this week, why, let me give you one more (insert finger in your throat and make gagging sound here).
