The Wedgie Bag

I finally did it. After seeing this ubiquitous japanese craft book inspired patchwork bag all over blog land, I decided to cave and make one myself. Is there a name for it, besides "the-ubiquitous-japanese-craft-book-inspired-patchwork bag"? If not, shall I propose a name? How about the wedgie bag? OY! What a jarring, impolite name for the ultimate in feminine baggage. Here's a question for you...if everyone seems to have one, why have I never seen one in real life besides this one that I just made? Huh? Same for the clapotis. I'd like to make one someday, but do people who make them ever wear them? Just wondering. I'm sure it would take a long time to make, and I'd hate to invest a lot of time into something that would look so great sitting in my closet but not spend any time on me. Please let me know if you've ever worn your clapotis or if you've ever used your wedgie bag. Thanks!

Ha! Wedgie bag! Such pretty material you used too. I always like these bags, and I've never ever seen a clapotis in real life.

Your wedgie bag is lovely. I use mine everyday and have for several months. It has held up nicely to the abuse I give a purse. Now I'll smile and think of you everytime I see my "wedgie" bag.

I have two that I use alternately all the time...my daughter uses hers, my SIL and her MIL have been using theirs all summer...I have been thinking of a winter version...
Yours is lovely, BTW...

I love the wedgie! hehe. I wonder the same thing, I never see the wedgie or the clapotis out and about. Maybe they frequent blogland but there are fewer bloggers than IRL people? Nah!

I have never made or seen a Wedgie Bag (ha, I love that name!) before this, but yours is quite lovely. I have knit clapotis several times, once for myself and two gifts. The one I knit for myself got a ton of mileage this past winter. It's a dull knit, but I love the finished product so much!

hee hee, wedgie bag! I have never seen one in person. I'm sure when I do, I MUST talk to the person using it.
Yours is quite lovely. I like all the soft colors.

The bag is so pretty. What japanese craft book is it from? It seems like I've missed the trolley and everyone else has heard of them =)

I've made two clapotis, one full sized and one scarf sized (I gave that one away to my sister.) I used the full sized one in the winter. It happens to match my rain coat perfectly and I enjoy wrapping it around my shoulders. Although I haven't seen any one else wearing one in real life =)

I don't even have a wedgie bag to carry... ::sob:: (love yours!)

I do have a couple of scarves, which I do wear occasionally -- but I'd love one that goes with everything and is longer than what I have.

cute bag -- love the handles you chose! i gave away the "wedgie" bag i made, but my sister seems to love it. and i did wear my clapotis a lot last fall/winter.

I love the bag; I would deifnitely carry it if I had one!

As for the clapotis, I finished mine right before I went on vacation last month, and I did wear it a couple of evenings when we were sitting on the balcony with a cool breeze coming off the ocean.

I anticipate using it more this fall/spring (mine is more laceweight).

Hope that helps!

Beautiful bag...the colors are delicious! My wedgie bag went to a friend. I have three more cut and ready to go, but life has been sooooo busy. Alas, it may have to wait until school begins.

Nice bag - I love the fabric. I have made a tissueholder today, but I do not have your e-mail. Otherwise I would have sent you a picture. My weblog is http://erleperle.typepad.com

Your bag is great, I'll have too try one out. It's a bit like those croc shoes loads of people show them on their blog, but I've never actually seen any one wear them.

I love your bag! Wasn't just a joy to make? I made mine with handles just like yours. I'm just finishing up another for my Mom. Good job. BTW, I have yet to make one for me.

The bag is beautiful and this is the first I've ever seen one even in blogland! I recognize those fabrics, I have scraps of most of those lying around myself ;)

Gorgeous bag! I have yet to make a wedgie bag or a clapotis so I can't tell you, but what I can say is that I've made plenty of things that I don't wear. I think a lot of the fun involved in knitting is the process not necessarily the finished prduct. At least for me right now. I'm looking for yarn for a clapotis but haven't found anything yet. I'm too cheap.

Oh, I have had so much fun visiting!!!!!! I love the commentary on the wedgie bag and clapotis! So true! And your wedgie bag is gorgeous. Very "ladylike" and that makes the name even more appropriate.

Your family looks absolutely wonderful, and I truly hope you are enjoying the summer! I think about you all the time! I will be in touch again soon.

If you ever come to Virginia you will see mine thrown over my shoulder! I use it everyday. I am also contemplating a fall bag. Mine is such nice light summer colors. I love the name, we will now christian it "The Wedgie Bag."

I love your bag! I have made one of these and have never used it. But being the true bagaholic that I am, I am going to make another in more practical colours and see what happens.

That's how you'll be sure it's me when we randomly run into each other around Seattle. I carry mine everywhere! I love how you did your handles. I did a single handle attached to either end and it tends to bunch a bit in the middle. I've been wanting to make a second and do the handles differently.

I like that bag ... and the name too!

um ok. So what's behind the name clapotis? and why does it sound like a vd? is it pronounced clap-otis or cla-pot-is?

Great bag btw. I have been thinking of doing one and have see a few online but never in rl either.
